Ntjamrosie’s mix van World, Pop, Soul en Jazz is in veel hokjes te plaatsen, voor het gemak creeert ze haar eigen hokje; ‘Bulu Soul’.

In februari vorig jaar kwam haar debuut album Atouba uit op het jonge verfrissende platenlabel Appletree Records. Sindsdien is het hard gegaan met haar carriere. Het album is zeer positief ontvangen bij muziekliefhebbers en ze heeft met haar band veel festivals en podia gezien. Zo stond ze op plekken als IJazz, Seven Bridges, Black Soil, North Sea Jazz Around Town, Pure Jazz, Nu Moon en trad ze op als support act bij Erykah Badu en Bilal.

Met haar band heeft ze aan aantal nieuwe nummers opgenomen die ze in haar live repertoire heeft verwerkt waar ze de komende tijd mee zal optreden. Zeer de moeite waard om dus weer te programmeren op de festivals van komend jaar.

Op kerstavond genieten van Roy Ayers in de intieme sfeer van de Sugar Factory. Roy Ayers, a.k.a. the Godfather of Neo-Soul, is een van de meest bekende, geliefde en gerespecteerde jazz/R&B artiesten in de huidige muziek scene. De Sugar Factory is meer dan trots om op kerstavond deze living legend op haar podium te kunnen presenteren.

Roy Ayers staat bekend als pionier en grondlegger van verschillende stromingen binnen de jazz. In de jaren 60 een award winning vibrafonist, transformeerde hij zich in de jaren 70 en 80 tot R&B bandleider en richtte zich op het combineren van R&B met jazz en funk. Vandaag de dag is hij, naast een icoon, nog steeds prominent aanwezig in de muziekwereld. Hij wordt gezien als de ‘profeet van de acid jazz,’ een man die zijn tijd ver vooruit was. Hij slaat hiermee een brug tussen verschillende generaties muziekliefhebbers. Onlangs nam hij het album ‘Incontournables’ op met hiphop artiest Talib Kweli en jazz/R&B zanger Will Downing (geproduceerd door Kanye West). Zijn muziek blijft de letterlijke basis en inspiratie voor de nummers van o.a. Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, 50 Cent en A Tribe Called Quest. Ayers’ Everybody Loves the Sunshine is het meest bekend geworden, niet in de laatste plaats omdat vele hiphop artiesten samples van dit nummer in hun muziek hebben verwerkt. Ayers zal een intiem, uniek en warm concert neerzetten op Sugar Factory’s Kerstavond. De Kerst Mis beleef je dit jaar in de Sugar Factory.

Our favourite artist Ntjamrosie had a interview with the online magazine Africanloft.

“I remember coming across Ntjamrosie’s music in my search for upcoming African soul/jazz musicians.  The deliverance of her music and her style of singing caught my attention because it was so similar to accomplished and established musicians like Erykah Badu and India Arie.  Digging further, I realized that others had also seen this connection.  Fret, a pop magazine, describes Ntjamrosie’s music: “India Arie meets Manu Dibango meets Me’Shell Ndegeocello. And that in English, French and Bulu! In addition, Rosie and her squad of skillful musicians deliver the songs full determination on stage; the sultry, percussionist and at the same time futuristic soul funk services the listening as well as the dance audience“.”

To celebrate the fruits of Beau Love’s, Sotu the Traveller’s & Louis Bordeaux’ labour Appletree Nights is throwing a party more or less in the honour of Pêche Noire.

On Saturday October 25th during Amsterdam Dance Event; Appletree Records x 100% Halal x deux d’Amsterdam present Three is a Crowd. From 21.00 hrs Bitterzoet, Amsterdam will open its stage for Nobody Beats The Drum, The Pigtails (the rockband with the longest hair and shortest act) and first ever performance by the beatcollective as Pêche Noire. Although the party is called Three is a Crowd we say the more the merrier. So come one come all!

To make the party even more festive MC Melodee will be hosting and DJ SP and Nelson & Djosa will provide the musical decor.

Last Saturday there was a wonderful Appletree party called Jockin’ Hayzee. At this party the premiere of Hayzee’s first video set place. Although some difficulties made it hard to play the video live, the crowd went crazy. And right now the internet is going nuts, here’s the most freshest video clip you have ever seen!
